Over the past 10 years, Rachael has brought her passion for beauty and excellence to countless events on Maui. Her experience includes planning and coordinating weddings and receptions, birthday parties, fundraisers, groundbreaking ceremonies, corporate events and more.

Having grown up in Florida, Rachael moved to Oahu to attend the University of Hawaii after falling in love with the islands and her future husband, Erik, during a vacation on Maui. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and went on to work in the book publishing industry, organizing marketing events and meetings.

Rachael’s event planning experience grew while working as a concierge for a luxury vacation rental company on Maui, where she planned itineraries and activities for visitors. She went on to serve as the wedding and event planner for one of Maui’s leading caterers/restaurateurs, renowned Chef Bev Gannon. During her time with Bev, Rachael’s corporate event planning experience blossomed, and she became an expert on catering logistics and event layout. Rachael later took her passion for planning to Hotel Wailea, developing the boutique hotel’s wedding department from the ground up.

Rachael has since built a strong network of resources and partnerships with vendors through her consistent demonstration of positive business ethics and customer service. She takes pride in working closely with Maui’s most qualified vendors.

Today, in addition to Maui Event Planning, Rachael is the owner of Island Rents, Maui’s finest event rental company, as well as Maui Venues, Maui’s premier event location source. She remains intimately involved with every event planned by Maui Event Planning, and will ensure that your special occasion is a one-of-a-kind experience for you and your guests.

Kara earned her bachelor’s degree in hospitality administration from Boston University. She has an extensive background in the hotel industry, having worked in New Hampshire, Puerto Rico and Madrid, Spain.

Before moving to Maui, Kara was the lead concierge at a luxury residential building in Boston’s cultural South End district. Like Rachael, Kara realized she belonged in Hawaii during a vacation to the Valley Isle. Once on Maui, Kara served as event coordinator and catering manager for one of the island’s leading caterers.

Kara first began working with Rachael as the office manager for Island Rents, a role she maintains today. At Hotel Wailea, Kara served as Rachael’s right-hand planner and administrative assistant. As a team, the two have planned countless events together at Maui Event Planning.

Kara’s background in catering, wedding coordination and event rentals gives her unique expertise in the event planning industry. With hands-on experience in nearly all aspects of event planning and her sharp attention to detail, Kara will ensure that your special day runs flawlessly.

Erik’s experience in the event rentals business at Island Rents has given him a keen ability to manage event layout and logistics. From lighting and tents, to canopies and dance floors, Erik can easily envision how to make the most out of the venue you’ve selected for your event.

In partnering with Rachael at Maui Event Planning and Island Rents, Erik’s problem-solving skills and ability to improvise have proved invaluable for countless events. Erik is MEPs go-to expert for event timing and scheduling, and can be trusted to deftly handle any last-minute changes that often come with the process of planning events.

Born and raised on Maui, Erik has an extensive knowledge of the island and what it has to offer. From suggestions on how to handle changes in weather, to recommendations on how to best feature the beauty of this tropical paradise, Erik serves as the ultimate island consultant.

Chelsea is Maui Event Planning’s newest team member. She brings a passion for beautiful design to the event planning process.

Prior to joining MEP, Chelsea worked in the newspaper industry in Oregon and on Maui. This background has given her strong time-management and communication skills and the ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure. You can feel confident that Chelsea will listen to your needs and approach them with a can-do attitude.

Weddings and events can be stressful, but you can rely on Chelsea to maintain a calm presence and keep all the pieces of your special day in place.

Karsten is Erik and Rachael’s right-hand man when it comes to ensuring that the layout of your event is functional and matches your vision. Karsten specializes in the technical aspects of events, envisioning the big picture down to the smallest details.

Originally from Southern California, Karsten moved to Maui with his family to enjoy island life. He has since learned the ins and outs of the many beautiful event venues Maui has to offer. He is sure to show up at your event site with a smile on his face and a warm demeanor that will put you at ease.
